SUMMARY:2026 MIPA Summer Journalism Workshop
DESCRIPTION:Whether you’re a writer\, photographer\, designer\, yearbook editor or news anchor — or if you’re just starting to explore journalism — MIPA will help you meet your goals and prepare for whatever challenges lie ahead. \n\n\n\nYou’ll spend five days living and learning on MSU’s East Lansing campus with some of the best instructors in the nation as you become a better journalist\, explore print or digital media creation and find your voice. \n\n\n\nEach participant may enroll in one workshop course. \n\n\n\nMIPA accepts participants entering grades 7-12 (for the upcoming fall) for any of our workshop courses. \n\n\n\nThis is an in-person\, residential program. Participants will stay in an MSU residence hall with at least one roommate. Meals are provided in a residential hall cafeteria. SUMMARY:2026 MIPA Adviser Institute
DESCRIPTION:This is an in-person program with a residential option.The inaugural MIPA Adviser Institute is designed to empower and equip educators with the knowledge and skills to excel in media advising. \n\n\n\nWhether you’re a seasoned adviser or just starting out\, this workshop offers an immersive learning environment where you can develop and refine your curriculum\, dive into the intricacies of media law and ethics\, master the art of revision and coaching\, and discover effective strategies for structuring a thriving student media program. \n\n\n\nLearn More About This Program |  Daily Course Schedule |  Required and Recommended Supplies \n\n\n\nPlease review payment and refund policies below before registering.  \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nMichigan Teachers: Please have your Michigan Online Educator Certification System Personal Identification Code (PIC) when you register. Your PIC is needed to award SCECHs. The best way to find your PIC is to either ask your Human Resources department or look it up on the Michigan Online Education Certification System (MOECS) system at https://www.michigan.gov/mde/Services/ed-serv/moecs \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nLast day to register for campus lodging: July 1Last day to register for commuter option: July 15 \n\n\n\nLearn More About MIPA Adviser Institute Policies \n\n\n\nSummary of Key Policies\n\n\n\nAll workshop fees must be paid prior to the start of our program. If your school has said it will pay for part or all of the registration fee\, please verify payment with your school office before the start of the program. \n\n\n\nParticipants who owe a balance may pay by cash\, money order\, cashier’s check or credit card. We reserve the right to decline personal checks after July 1. Payments by credit card can be made at https://mipamsu.org/payment \n\n\n\nBounced checks will be assessed a $30 service fee and the participant will be removed from registration until a credit card payment\, money order or cashier’s check for the registration amount plus the service fee has been received. \n\n\n\nRefund Policy\n\n\n\nFull refunds of workshop fees will be made if we are notified of a cancellation by July 1. After July 1\, refunds of 50% will be made if cancellations are received at least 24 hours prior to check-in. If for some reason you cannot come to the workshop\, you may transfer your registration to another person. \n\n\n\nThere will be no refunds for no-shows or those who do not complete the program for any reason. \n\n\n\nIf MIPA cancels this programs or switches to remote learning prior to the start of the program\, participants will have the option to receive a full refund. \n\n\n\nBackground Check and Youth Safety Training\n\n\n\nMIPA follows Michigan State University rules requiring all individuals who have direct contact with minors at a campus youth program pass a criminal background check within 12 months of the program. Please complete MSU’s background check authorization form. \n\n\n\nBecause the Adviser Institute runs concurrently with our youth program\, the MIPA Summer Journalism Workshop\, we require you agree to a background check to comply with MSU youth safety policies. Adviser Institute participants also must complete MIPA-provided youth safety training.  As part of this training\, you will be asked to will be asked to review and sign a document that details Michigan State University conduct rules for youth programs. \n\n\n\nHealth & Safety Protocols\n\n\n\nParticipants agree to follow MIPA and MSU health and safety protocols\, which may change without notice in response to current conditions. \n\n\n\nSpecial Needs & Accommodations\n\n\n\nMIPA is committed to providing equal opportunity for participation in all programs\, services and activities.
