About This Course
Adobe InDesign is used by many journalists to design newspapers, magazines and other print products. Learn how to use this software to create effective designs to convey news and other information. Trending graphic design and visual artistry will be emphasized. MIPA will provide participants with access to a web-based version of InDesign for the duration of the course. Students may also bring their own Adobe Creative Cloud licenses.
Each day will include direct online instruction of graphic design concepts and tools followed by practice. Sessions will include mini-challenges of acquired skills as well as designing an alternative story form final project. Designers will work in teams to share informed feedback and will leave the workshop with designs to wow staffs at home publications. Expect to immerse yourself in design theory as well as practical knowledge of how to use InDesign to create your vision. Plan to stretch your ideas of how storytelling is informed by design.
Designers who already know Adobe InDesign may consider enrolling in Design Like a Pro.
This is an in-person, residential program. Participants will stay in an MSU residence hall with at least one roommate. Meals are provided in a residential hall cafeteria. Workshop sessions are held in MSU classrooms, which may be a short walk from the residence hall.
This workshop course is open to youth participants entering grades 7 through 12.
