Permission to Drive or Commute Independently
To help ensure the safety of our participants, the normal policy of the Michigan Interscholastic Press Association is that our youth participants may not drive to, from or on campus. However, we do not want to preclude any participant from the workshop experience if a parent or guardian is unable to drive them to Michigan State.
This form must be completed prior to the start of the MIPA Summer Journalism Workshop by the parent/guardian listed as the youth participant’s emergency contact to allow the participant to drive independently to and from our program.
Participants who drive will be charged a $10 parking fee and must agree to follow a special set of rules (summarized on the permission form).

Pay Parking Fee
After completing the driver permission form, please pay the $10 parking fee. This fee helps us offset the added administrative costs of supervising youth participant drivers. Payment by check to MIPA may be mailed to the address below.

Pick-up/Drop-off Permission Form
This form must be completed prior to the start of the MIPA Summer Journalism Workshop by the parent/guardian listed as the youth participant’s emergency contact for any of the following instances:
- The participant’s parents/guardians wish for the participant to be excused from the program prior to its scheduled conclusion
- The participant’s parents/guardians have arranged for the participant to be temporarily checked out of the program for another event (scheduled family gathering, medical appointment, dining off-site with a family member, etc.)
- The participant’s parents/guardians have arranged for a specified adult other than the participants parents/guardians to take responsibility for the participant during the youth program’s drop-off process
- The participant’s parents/guardians have arranged for a specified adult other than the participants parents/guardians to take responsibility for the participant during the youth program’s pick-up process
- The participant will be picked up/dropped off daily by a designated adult rather than staying in the residence hall overnight.
- The participant will be riding as a passenger in a vehicle driven by another youth participant to or from the program.
Please indicate on the form which of these situations apply. Provide information about pick-up and drop-off times and/or adults other than the parent or legal guardian who has permission to take responsibility for the youth participant.
The participant will receive instructions about MIPA’s checkout and check-in procedures and must follow this process when leaving or returning to our program.
