ONLINE IN JULY 2020!
- Session 1: July 6-17, 2020
- Session 2: July 20-31, 2020
Now perhaps more than ever, you have the power to shape the world around you through the images you capture, facts you uncover and stories you tell. But first you have to break through the clutter.
How can you stand out from all the other messages that surround us?
Now is the time to FIND YOUR VOICE.
Let us help you at the MIPA Summer Journalism Workshop. We’re going virtual for our 2020 program, bringing some of the best instructors in the nation to you at home! You’ll spend up to two weeks working in-depth with some of the best instructors in the nation.
We’re excited to offer two sessions of workshop courses, from July 6-17 and July 20-31. Register for a course in one or both sessions!

Online course format
Each online summer workshop course runs two weeks. Expect to meet each weekday for either a LIVE session with the instructor and/or recorded lessons. Instructors will also be available to meet with small groups of students during daily office hours. You will have a daily activity to complete and will receive feedback on all assignments.
In addition, MIPA will host opportunities throughout July where participants can connect with each other via speakers, virtual trivia events, a talent show, our workshop awards program and more.
Participants will receive a welcome packet with a full schedule and information on accessing our online platform prior to the start of their course.
Small classes led by expert instructors
We keep our classes small so you’ll get all the individual help you need. Learn the latest trends and innovations, plus get motivated and return home ready to make your student media the best it has ever been! Don’t work on the student media staff at your school? That’s OK, too. We’ll help you build your skills in writing, design, photography, video and more!
Our classes are designed to meet your needs. You’ll be immersed in one class for about two weeks.
Our instructors include leading high school media educators and professional journalists from across the country.
Affordable!
We don’t think you’ll find a better workshop value in. The registration fee includes two weeks of live interaction with an instructor and our expert team, a variety of fun activities and a T-shirt.
We can help you pay for your registration!
Use our crowd-funding system, SponsorMe, to raise money from the people you know toward your workshop registration. Start a campaign today! We’ve also got some other great fundraising ideas and scholarships.
Workshop policies
Yeah, we’ve got some fine print, too. Our workshop policies are being revised to reflect our new online program. Please check back for more information. Participants and parents will need to complete some permission forms in addition to registering.
