MIPA’s members filled five seats on the Executive Board in this year’s election.
East Lansing High School newspaper and yearbook adviser Cody Harrell will take on the new job of secretary of MIPA’s Executive Board. Harrell has previously served as a trustee. He replaces Marilyn Hess, newspaper adviser at Plainwell High School, who did not run for another term.
Cammie Hall, who advises the broadcast, newspaper and yearbook programs at H. H. Dow High School in Midland, was elected treasurer. She will replace Pioneer High School yearbook adviser Betsy van der Zee, who also did not seek another term.
Heather Caid, yearbook adviser at Lakeshore High School in Stevenson, was elected to a full term as second vice president. She was appointed to a vacancy in that seat a year ago.
Marnie Hade, broadcast and yearbook adviser at Northwest High School in Jackson, and Jennifer Williamson, broadcast and newsmagazine adviser at West Bloomfield High School, were elected as trustees. They replace Sarah Ashman, newspaper adviser at Holt High School, who did not seek re-election, and Harrell.
Following the board’s May 15 meeting — the final scheduled meeting of the 2020-2021 academic year — Ava Butzu will end her five years of leadership service to MIPA when her term as past president expires. Butzu, yearbook adviser at Grand Blanc High School, was elected as first vice president in spring 2016 and served as MIPA president from 2018-2020.
