The guide, published by Quill & Scroll, is provided free to MIPA member programs. We can ship the guide directly to your administrator, or send it to you so that you can give it to your administrator.
Membership for Student Media Programs
Membership in MIPA runs the academic year (August-August) and is open to student media programs at public, private and parochial high schools, middle schools and junior highs. These media programs may be connected to classes or extracurricular clubs and should have guidance from an adviser/teacher associated with the school. Join or renew annually by Oct. 1 to save $5.

To join MIPA or renew your membership:
- Below, select the type of media program that is joining MIPA. This step can be completed by the adviser OR your business office.
- You can pay immediately or generate an invoice for your business office to pay.
- If you have multiple student media programs at your school, consider our membership bundles, which offer a significant savings when student media programs at the same school join MIPA together.
- Complete the checkout process. You may pay immediately by credit card, or select our invoice option to get a bill emailed to you.
New adviser? Or is your program new to MIPA?
MIPA offers a special First-Time Membership Package to introduce you to key MIPA programs. This package for 1 media program membership includes $65 in extra member benefits, including 10 contest entries, a Fall Conference Adviser Luncheon registration, and a registration for a future student leader to attend the MIPA Leadership Workshop. Plus, first-time members have access to apply for a BOMR grant to help students attend the MIPA Summer Journalism Workshop. The MIPA First-Time Membership Package is designed for student media programs that are new to MIPA (or have not participated in MIPA in the past four years) or for programs with teachers who are new to advising student media.

If you advise 1 media program and/or only have 1 media program at your school, select 1 from the below membership options. Save $5 when you join or renew your membership by Oct. 1. Schools with 2 or more programs can save on membership fees when you select a membership bundle further down this page.

Membership Add-Ons
You can join the national Journalism Education Association, support the Student Press Law Center or request a free copy of the “Principal’s Guide to Scholastic Journalism” with your MIPA membership. JEA is a national nonprofit association that provides educational programming and support for journalism teachers. When you join JEA through MIPA, we’ll mail your membership information to JEA for you, and a portion of your JEA dues will help support MIPA. Your contribution to the SPLC helps provide free legal services to student journalists.

Associate Membership for MIPA Supporters
Associate members are individuals or organizations that support MIPA’s mission and have a strong interest in scholastic journalism, but are not student media outlets. This may include teachers who don’t advise student media, individuals who believe in the educational value of scholastic journalism, media trade organizations, collegiate journalism programs, professional media companies, those who provide sales and services to student media and others. Membership runs the academic year.
