Thank you for your interest in submitting a video lesson or presentation for the 2020 MIPA Un-Conference! The lessons and presentations we select will be available for participants throughout the 2020-21 academic year.
Submit your plan for a lesson or presentation here. Our team will quickly review your proposal for inclusion in our program.
We have a best practices and tips that we hope will help you produce a high-quality presentation.
Length of lesson or presentation
- We recommend any single video be kept under 10 minutes whenever possible.
- If your presentation or lesson is more than 10 minutes, please break it into shorter parts if possible.
- We can include multiple videos, readings, handouts and other supplemental materials with your lesson or presentation!
Recording your lesson or presentation
You can use any tool to record your lesson or presentation. Here are a few we recommend that would allow you to combine video of yourself with slides or your computer screen:
- Loom. Basic level is available for free as a desktop app for your computer or as an extension for the Chrome browser. Verified teachers at K-12 schools and universities can get a free Loom Pro account.
- Camtasia. Windows and Mac software for screen recording and editing. Free trial available.
- Prezi Video. Free basic version plan to create and share up to 5 projects. Discounted plans for educators.
- Screencastify. Free plan allows 5 minute recordings. Educator discount available for unlimited plan.
Getting your video to MIPA
In a perfect world, you’ll send us your raw video file. This will allow us to upload the file to MSU’s video hosting service, which isn’t as likely to be blocked by school district IT departments as YouTube or Vimeo often is.
This file is likely going to be too large to email, so you’ll likely have to use a file sharing service, like Dropbox, Google Drive, Box, etc., to share it with MIPA Director Jeremy Steele, jws@mipamsu.org.
If you can’t get the original video file to send us, we’ll happily take a link or embed code to your video wherever it’s hosted.
Captions/transcripts & accessibility of materials
We want all Un-Conference materials to be accessible to all participants. To do that, there are some relatively easy things we can do to promote accessibility standards.
- Include a transcript or captions with all videos. Some services will automatically create those. (MSU’s video hosting service will auto-generate captions if you can get us the video file.)
- Follow basic accessibility guidelines when creating any handouts or supplemental materials. Here are accessibility tips from MSU.
Give us your handouts and activities!
We’d love to have any handouts, assignments or activities that might accompany your lesson. Teachers may use these materials in class to motivate students to complete lessons and monitor student learning. We’ll include those materials with your video. Just email any of those materials to jws@mipamsu.org.
