Eye on Michigan welcomes Detroit high school students and teachers to a free day-long workshop to introduce you to industry leaders, university officials and students who are studying and practicing journalism. Breakfast snacks and lunch (pizza and salad) will be provided.
Eye On Michigan was established in 2023 to give students an introduction to investigative reporting as well as increase diversity in investigative reporting.
Join us as the MSU Detroit Center, 3408 Woodward Ave. Free and metered street parking is available on side streets surrounding the facility. Validated parking for MSU-Detroit Center guests is available at the SOMA Parking Garage located on Erskine, between John R and Woodward. This structure is open to the public.
The workshop will:
• Offer opportunities to gain experience as an investigative reporter while still in high school and college
• Introduce students to leading media professionals
• Introduce students to college journalism professors
• Introduce students to college journalism students
• Explore the role investigative reporters play in our communities
• Discuss what life is like for college journalism students in Detroit, Dearborn and East Lansing
