The 14th annual MIPA Middle School Journalism Conference will be Thursday, Nov. 3, at the Michigan State University Union.
The conference will bring hundreds of student journalists together to hear from speakers and meet each other.
Joanne Gerstner, the Michigan State University School of Journalism’s sports journalist in residence, will give the keynote address. Gerstner is an award-winning multi-platform sports journalist. Her work has appeared in The New York Times, USA Today, ESPN.com, The Detroit News, The Cincinnati Enquirer, PGA Magazine and more. She also is the co-author of “Back in the game: Why concussion doesn’t have to end your athletic career.”
Conference registration is $8 for each MIPA member student or adviser and $9 per student or adviser for non-members.
Other scheduled speakers include MSU professors Joe Grimm and Joy Visconti, Red Cedar Log yearbook design editor Haley Kluge and former MIPA Summer Journalism Workshop director and Michigan Journalism Hall of Fame member Betsy Rau.
Attendees also can bring entries for the Middle School Carry-In Contest. Winners will be announced during a brief ceremony at the end of the event.
Registration begins at 8 a.m. with the first session taking place at 9 a.m. and an awards ceremony beginning at 11:50 a.m.
