Cody Harrell, a Michigan State University journalism education student, is one of three undergraduate students nationwide to receive a $1,000 Future Teacher Scholarship from the national Journalism Education Association.
Harrell, who was a floor counselor and activity assistant at the 2014 MIPA Summer Journalism Workshop, is a senior at MSU. He is a student worker and undergraduate research assistant for the School of Journalism and a copy editor for Front Edge Publishing in Lansing.
Retired MIPA director Cheryl Pell, who has worked with Harrell on design projects for the School of Journalism and as student president of the Society of News Design student chapter, recommend Harrell for the honor.
“Others notice Cody’s dedication ot journalism and teaching as well,” she wrote. “Yes, he’s going to be a great journalism teacher.”
Harrell’s goal after graduation is to become a high school newspaper or yearbook adviser and English teacher.
