Description
MIPA will ship your newspaper or newsmagazine to an out-of-state judge who will evaluate it against the standards set by MIPA. Participating media outlets receive a Bronze, Silver, Gold or Spartan Award — MIPA’s highest honor — based on how well they meet MIPA’s student media standards. Winners of the Spartan Award will be recognized at MIPA’s awards ceremony in April.
The judge’s critique, which includes scores and comments, will be emailed to you after the awards event. Publications are only returned if annotated.
Critique Fees
Critique fees should be paid by the contest deadline. That means postmarked if mailing a check or P.O. or completed if paying with a credit card.
- Base Critique Fee: $40
- Annotation: add $45. Annotation means that the judge will write comments directly in the publication as well as the critique guide. Price includes mailing your publication back to you.
- Late Deadline Fee: add $40*
*You may submit your Spartan entry by the late deadline for an added fee, but it may not be back from the judge in time for the awards event. Spartan submissions received after the late deadline may receive a critique, but will not be eligible to receive an award ranking.
