We launched MIPA Badges in summer 2020 to honor your hard work and help you showcase your journalism and media production skills to others.
Students and advisers can earn badges for participating in a variety of MIPA programs or showcases specific skills. We’ve even created badges for some of our awards, including the summer workshop Sparty Award.
MIPA Badges are built on the Open Badges framework, which means they come with verification from MIPA that you can show to others! These are real credentials from MIPA. We recommend the free Canvas Badges Backpack (formerly Badgr) to collect your badges and keep them organized.
You can download your MIPA badges as regular image files, or you can keep and share them directly from Backpack to social media, to your portfolio website or to LinkedIn. You also can embed your verified credentials on a portfolio website.
We hope to continue to add opportunities to earn badges.
How to get your badges

Event Attendees: We’ll issue badges via the email you used to register for a MIPA badge-earning program. This includes workshops and conferences.
Award Winners
MIPA Individual Category Contest Winners: Please use this form to send us information we need to be able to issue a MIPA Badge to you.
You’ll get an email with information about your badge. Your email will give you the chance to download an image of your badge or create a Backpack account for your badges, if you don’t already have one.
You can link multiple email addresses to a single Badgr Backpack account. We recommend you include any email addresses you regularly use in your account profile, including your school email and a personal email address, since you can continue to use Backpack even as you move into your college career.
