MIPA can help you enroll in courses at the Michigan State University School of Journalism to add a journalism teaching minor to your state certification. MIPA’s executive director, who is a member of the J-School faculty, will work with you to explore courses that will grow your skills and meet state standards. Scholarships may be available.
Requirements
- You need at least 20 credits, with classes in the following areas:
- Writing
- Media Law
- News Design
- Photojournalism
- Advising Student Media
- Other journalism courses can be taken as electives.
- Journalism courses completed at accredited public colleges and universities may count toward requirements for a journalism teaching minor.
- At least 9 credits must be taken at MSU, including a teaching methods course in journalism.
