MIPA developed the Individual New Media Contest to recognize student work — whether published by a stand-alone online student media outlet or as an extension of an existing newspaper, yearbook or video production program — that uses the full potential of an online medium.
Some material published online, however, is comparable in journalistic style to work that appears in traditional print or broadcast products. That work should be entered in the individual contest with which it most closely aligns. For example, a feature story originally published on a website should be entered in the Individual Category Newspaper Contest along with feature stories that originally appeared in print. No entry can be placed in more than one category — so work must be entered in either New Media or one of the other individual contests (not in more than one). Only two entries can be entered per category per school, including online entries. Use this chart (PDF) to see what categories your website is eligible to enter.
