Video Opportunities Connected to the MIPA Spring Conference!

Carry-In Video Contests
Cost: $3.00 each

All DVDs must be delivered to the registration table at the spring conference on April 17. Payment can be sent in with the spring conference registration form.
Each school may enter TWO entries into each contest.
■ Newscast Cost: $3.00
Students will bring a DVD or mini-DV with a broadcast of school news, which is typical of their school news program. The program may be no longer than 10 minutes. Students will be judged on camera handling, lighting, titling, audio and video quality, transitions for technical quality, uniqueness of the story and script writing. Students will also be judged on news content. For example: Does the program directly impact the school itself? Anchors and reporters should be appropriately dressed. This newscast must have been created in the 2010–2011 school year.
■ Feature Story Cost: $3.00
Students will bring a DVD or mini-DV with a broadcast of a feature story. The program may be no longer than 5 minutes. Typical examples could be a feature on an Individual, on a sport, art, music video or club. Students will be judged on camera handling, lighting, titling, audio and video quality, transitions for technical quality, uniqueness of the story and script writing. This feature story must have been created AFTER Feb. 17, which was the deadline for the MIPA Individual Category Contest.
NOTE: Do not produce broadcasts on the same DVD. The news broadcast and the feature broadcast must be on separate DVDs. Download the form and attach a separate form to each DVD. No DVDs will be returned.
No copyrighted music may be used unless the individual owns the license for the music and provides proof.

On-Site Video Creation
Cost: $3.00 per team

There is no limit on the number of teams per school, but only three students per team.
Students are to bring their own cameras, tapes, microphones and editing equipment—most likely, a laptop. There will be a 10-minute instruction period at 8:50 a.m in the main hall. You must attend this session. Meet at the registration table near on-site carry-in contest area at 8:45.
Students will have from 9 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. to complete the video. There may be no more than three individuals to a team.
The subject of the video will be given to the students at the conference.
Students may not come with any pre-made footage. The video will be 2–4 minutes and must be turned in on either a mini-dv or a dvd. It will be a feature or news story.

MIPA will not supply any equipment or media. Please bring all of your own equipment.

MIPA Three-Week Film Challenge!

This contest will take place for two-weeks before the conference. Announcement of the topic will be launched on the MIPA Facebook group and Twitter on March 27.
