We know what drives you. It drives us, too.
Our instructors have the same passion you do for journalism, photography, design, yearbook and broadcast production. They live and breathe it.
Come find your true colors at MIPA camp. You’ll spend five days on Michigan State University’s campus working with some of the best instructors in the nation. Then take what you learn back to your school newspaper, yearbook, video production or news website.
Don’t work on a student media staff? Our journalism-focused curriculum provides skills and techniques that you can apply in a variety of areas — from class to life. Become a better writer, explore print or digital media creation and find your voice.
You’ll make new friends for life, and we guarantee you’ll leave more energized than ever.
Small class sizes
We keep our classes small so you’ll get all the individual help you need. Learn the latest trends and innovations, plus get motivated and return home ready to make your student media the best it has ever been! Don’t work on the student media staff at your school? That’s OK, too. We’ll help you build your skills in writing, design, photography, video, business and more!
We have 24 different classes designed to meet your needs. You’ll be immersed in the class of your choice for the week.
There’s No Better Setting Than MSU
Held on one of the most beautiful campuses in the nation, the MIPA Summer Journalism Workshop is the place you’ll want to be this summer. You’ll be able to sit on the banks of the Red Cedar River and visit all the cool spots on campus, including Beaumont Tower, the MSU Dairy Store and the International Center, where you’ll find a food court and the Spartan Bookstore.
Live On Campus
You’ll live on campus while attending the workshop, and you’ll be supervised by workshop personnel. We’ve got lots of activities for you. For those wishing to room with a friend, include his or her name on the registration form. Special dietary or housing needs? Let us know ASAP.
Easy to get to, from wherever you are
Get directions and maps of campus. You should be dropped off at the workshop between 2:30-5:30 p.m. Sunday and picked up on Thursday at noon. We strongly discourage local students from commuting because of limited campus parking and safety concerns. If you’re arriving via train, bus or plane, please make your own arrangements for transportation to and from campus. Lansing’s airport maintains a list of taxi and car services in the East Lansing area. Michigan Flyer provides daily motorcoach service to and from Detroit Metro Airport. Contact us if you have travel questions.
Affordable!
We don’t think you’ll find a better workshop value in the Midwest. The registration fee includes three square meals on Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday, a pizza party Sunday night and breakfast on Thursday; housing; tuition and a T-shirt. We offer discounts to MIPA members and for completing registration by our early deadline. Not sure if your school is a member of MIPA? Take a look or call us at 517-353-6761.
We can help you pay for your registration!
Use our crowd-funding system, SponsorMe, to raise money from the people you know toward your workshop registration. Start a campaign today! We’ve also got some other great fundraising ideas and scholarships.
Workshop Policies
Yeah, we’ve got some fine print, too. Please review our workshop policies. You’ll need to complete our policy form and health form before your registration is complete.
