About MIPA EdCamps

Join other journalism, yearbook, broadcast and media advisers at a MIPA EdCamp! EdCamps provide FREE professional development training to teachers.

WHAT TO BRING:

A pen or pencil, a laptop/iPad OR lined paper for notes, access to your class files (if possible, to share), something to drink (MIPA will provide lunch).

WHAT TO EXPECT:

If you haven’t been able to participate in an EdCamp yet, give it a try. Some of you many be hesitant because you don’t really know what we do at EdCamp, so here’s a basic rundown:
As people arrive, they write answers to five questions on chart paper around the room:

1. What went well for you this year?
2. What were your struggles this year?
3. What questions do you have?
4. What do you want to share about, if anything?
5. What do you want to do/discuss/accomplish today?

Then, we introduce ourselves and explain what we’d like to learn more about or identify specific questions we have. The conversation that follows is guided by the needs of the group and we try to help answer everyone’s questions in the remaining time. If we have enough people, we can break into smaller groups (perhaps by publication type) so we get to everyone’s issues before time is up.
Bring a flash drive with your files and information to share with others!
Toward the end, you’ll receive a signed professional development certificate to give to your school and you’ll be asked to fill out an Exit Ticket with four questions:

• What did you accomplish today?
• What did you think about today (strengths, weaknesses, suggestions for improvement)?
• What are your next steps?
• What can MIPA do to support you in those next steps?

That’s it! It’s a nice, relaxing form of professional development.
It’s a great chance to get one-on-one time with other advisers and to get answers to questions (such as how different advisers approach grading) before the new school year starts.[/vc_column_text][/vc_column][vc_column width=”1/3″][vc_message icon_fontawesome=”fa fa-map-marker”]
